Broome-Tioga Workforce announced a partnership with County Executive Jason Garnar's Office and New York Wired for Education to offer he SkillUp! job training program.
The free online educational courses are intended to provide job-seekers with the specific skills local employers are seeking.
These include healthcare, skilled trades, customer service, and clerical jobs.
Based on the feedback of local businesses, Broome-Tioga Workforce selected specific courses from SkillUp's training catalogue and participants can receive badges indicating that they have successfully completed the training.
Participants can take the course online at home, or anywhere else where they can access high-speed internet.
People can also get the training in a classroom setting offered by the Binghamton City School District's Adult Education Program.
"We mainly target individuals still needing to get their diploma. We want to create a better, stronger candidate for employers," said Marriott.
SkillUp! can also create an online course specific to the needs of an employer.
The New York State Department of Labor says there are 5,800 unemployed people in Broome County, yet Broome-Tioga Workforce says the county has 2,800 job openings.
Currently, there are slots for 400 local residents to sign up for the free online training.
